A young boy, wide-eyed and mischievous Salvatore (Toto), and grumpy projectionist Alfredo build an endearing friendship over many years as a result of Toto’s fascination and love for film. Alfredo acts as a friend, mentor and guide to Toto who is without a father and teaches him what he knows about film projection, and Toto likewise fulfills a hole in Alfredo’s heart where he has had no children of his own. As Toto grows up, Alfredo strongly encourages and pushes Toto to leave his small town of Giancaldo in order to pursue his dreams of becoming a filmmaker. Through heart-wrenching and beautiful scenes, this film explores the difficult and universal themes of nostalgia, lost love, and navigating disappointment in one’s life. 10/10!
