Timing, direction and voice overs were the primary problems. Due to the direction of the film, and speed of the characters, the partnership between the music, plot and characters were lost- all the heart within the story did not hit the mark. The most powerful parts no longer existed.. The voices selected for the characters took away from the story instead of adding to it's power or it's humor. Just because you can get a star doesn't mean the star fits the role or the tone. An almost all black cast is a must for this film, but honestly... Some of the cast weren't able to step away/out of their true voices and bend the voice and tone for the character. I was impressed with Donald G's tone and voice for Simba but beyond that... Nothing else impressed me. If it hadn't been for a multiple movie event at the theatre I saw it at, I honestly would have left and not wasted my time. I would have stuck with the first film and sequels.
