The tears were streaming down my face at the end of this movie, truly feeling the collective pain of humanity and the vast suffering in our past and present. Not for those seeking a "feel good movie," but a honest depiction of the crimes of colonization, white supremacy, the brutalization of women, and indigenous people of color. A truthful look at history....not a whitewashed version that sugar coats realities of our past. There were parts of this movie that were extremely hard to watch (I had to look away), but brilliantly acted by Clare and Billy, the two lead characters. The film also fairly captures the fact that white men harnessed cruel power and control over other their white counterparts (i.e. the British who enslaved the Irish) and pointed out through the narrative of Billy that the aboriginal population had bad men too. Sending prayers for healing and alleviation of violence, oppression, and the toxic patriarchy once and for all. Excellent movie---beautifully directed.
