Fear can make you do stupid things. It can make you do harmful things to the point that your life is in critical danger. This shows in the movie Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I think Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a fairly good movie because of the plot, the suspense, and the potential.
First of all, I think the plot was really interesting with Sarah Bellows. She was disowned by her parents and she was left in a basement because of her albinism, for her innocence and her trust to rot under the care of her crazy family. There seemed to be no trace of her, no picture, like she was erased from this planet, except for hospital records. To escape her reality, she would write scary stories, but she was accused of killing children while her family actually did it and she hung herself. Several years later, this group of kids access her book and stories start appearing with their own very lives, hence them saying, "You don't read the book, the book reads you." People in their real lives were dying and they were in the risk of danger. It was really interesting on how they were trying to survive with the remaining people that they had while they were in crisis.
Also, the suspense in the movie was good. When the kids were finding out about Sarah and they were trying to save each kid, it was a lot of fun finding out what they were going to do next. It was difficult to stop watching it. I just loved seeing what would happen next in the movie, especially who was next in Sarah's game of stories and death.
In addition, the potential was great. However, I think they should have made the theme a little different. The theme of the movie was that stories hurt and that they can impact our lives. They literally tell us that in the beginning of the movie. However, I think the theme should be the original one as well as fear can make you do harmful things, similarly to It. I think this should be the theme because the stories are making the protagonists face their fears and improve as people, like in It. In It, the theme is that facing your fears has a lot of impact in your life. They have to use their courage and their combined strength to defeat Pennywise. However, they don't do this very well. Instead, they are just not strong people and they're really scared throughout the story. They're doing stupid things in the movie and they're letting their friends die. With fear, the probability of doing bad and harmful things increases. There is proof in the movie that they took things from It. One of the stories says to Ramon that he was a coward because he didn't draft in the military. I understand what Ramon went through, but what would have been great was that he should have said loudly and clearly to the monster from his childhood, "I am not a coward!" He was a coward not for not drafting in the military, but for not standing up to the monster.
I think Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a good movie because of the plot, the suspense, and the potential. Many people, including in the movie, experience a point in their life where they are scared. They can get so scared to the point that they do reckless and stupid things. It can cause harm to you and your loved ones or friends. This shows in the movie that people die if you don't give the attention to them and if you are just scared, with no courage, with no personality, and no aspiration to help them. Thus, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a fairly good movie.
