I am amused by the highly polarized responses. 5 stars from Katee Sackhoff fans, 1 star from Sci-Fi snobs and armchair critics... I don't think either extreme reaction was warranted.
The universe is unique, the technobabble is up to date, and the effects really good for a serial. The dialogue and writing are occasionally sophomoric, but the LGBT representation is worthy of a masterclass for being accurate, compassionate, and unobtrusive.
All in all, this was a solid B- for cheesy sci-fi. I skipped a few slow moments in the middle episodes, but I became invested enough that I'm excited for a new season.
