Listen, I've been a Sonic fan since I was about 3 years old, so I like to think I know me some Sonic.
This movie... is pretty Sonic. It brings back that fun attitude we saw in the early days. It has hints of the personality we saw budding in the original games and the growing maturity we enjoyed in the Sonic Adventure Era.
The Sonic movie was lots of fun and pretty great. I was impressed with all of the attacks and moves from the videogames they slipped in. Not to mention, it's interesting to see Eggman's... slow decent into madness, for lack of better words. He was cute and adorable and the comedy reminded me a lot of the playful and fun hedgehog we got from the original games and the Sonic Adventure era. My only sadness is that they didn't slip in a Chao somehow. But with that Fantastic sequel bait, I really, really hope we get one. Like so bad.
We got a Great Setup for Sonic and Eggman's rivalry, we got [spoiler removed] that we saw in the end... The rings served a cool purpose and also the scene of how he got his shoes? Adorable. (All the classic Sonic nicknames and how Sonic started using "Eggman" was pretty great.)
Though, I feel like I always forget just how young Sonic is until I step back and remember. We really got to see his mind and personality developing and how loneliness played a part in that, which is cool.
Also the Sequel bait. Sequel bait! It genuinely made me excited for the next one. This movie was fun and very much in the spirit of Sonic. Fans new and old can enjoy it.
