Confusion arises from the inevitable holes in time travel in practice - how did someone save themselves from death in the future? How does a physical fight work between the future and the past when it's already happened for the future, therefore the outcome is already set (because its happened for the past) ? Nolan skirts around these issues and fast forwards through scenes to avoid providing some basis for the movie and adding to legitimate confusion.
