Unfortunately, this movie was a big let down for me. First, it’s not really and adaptation of the book; “The Knife of Never Letting Go” but more of a spin off. But that’s not what made it unbearable to watch. It follows Todd Hewitt and Viola Eade as they venture across the “planet” to contact her mother ship. But instead of being a thrilling adventure, it’s scrambled and lacks a comprehensive plot. It feels rushed and has too much happening while being over simple in explanations. The characters are flat, unrealistic, and severely underdeveloped. Due to the lack of direction, the big moments fall short, leaving much to to be desired. The effects are about the only redeeming factor but not worth the time. There is too much focus on hormonal sexual tension, and not enough on the actual story. All in all, a waste of good material.
