Well, I do like this book, and it is very deep, actually... Especially, the ending is really emotional... The way Khushwant Singh writes about his relationship with his grandmother, and her death, and how the sparrows fly away at the end really fills up the eyes of the readers...
But, however, the book has a negative vibe...
The beginning was pleasant...
However, when we read on, the book tends to show us an air of unpleasantness...
It starts to show the beautiful relationship of the grandmother and grandson break apart... How his grandmother did not even care to show sweetness to her grandson after his return from foreign...
I do not mean to say that this is a bad story... It is good, considering the fact that emotions are well-expressed, and emotional...
But this might not be the best story to learn at the beginning of an English class...
Something more 'jolly' would be better, actually...
Starting the year with a sad, emotional story would be... well, let me put it as 'unpleasant'...
But still, it is worth a read... I would suggest it to others, but not for lessons...
