This latest BBC version of Great Expectations is a piece of stinking ordure! It has nothing to do with Charles Dickens; nothing to do with Dickens’s notion if what it is to be a human being; nothing to do with any normal person’s notion of what its is to be a human being. There is no sense of early 19th century England. If anything it is a forward projection of the worst and most hellish trends in today’s society. I watched the first episode and halfway through the second and that was enough for me.
