So far, very impressed. The first episode was obviously just setting the scene and introducing the characters - important as there are so many major ones, but it held my interest. I grew up in the aftermath of WW2, amid the bomb sites and the sense of fear which my mother never shook off.
In one scene set in Warsaw, a mother pushes her child under the table as a German plane roars over the city. My mother did this for years after the war, when ever a plane flew over and is one of my earliest memories.
My father was one of WW2's casualties and I never knew him. With what is happening in Syria at the moment , this series is a reminder of how easily war can happen and how terrifying and isolating it is. Well done BBC.
