The series had an occasional weak sister but on the whole it was the best of its kind at time. Considering what followed probably the best for a long long time with more classic episodes per season than Hitchcock or Twilight Zone. Special effects might be a bit cheesy by today's standards, but the writing outdid almost anything. I don't think there is a series that I can recall more stories from than this one. The new series was almost as good. I still watch many of them. I even used them to illustrate points of discussion in my honors class. A Stitch in Time is a good case in point raising the question of guilt and punishment for a crime the character will commit. . This idea was done in Minority Report but not nearly as powerfully in the OL episode. The secret of the series power was the writers, many of them science fiction professionals. Things always work better when you employ the pros instead of a producer who simply wants a cut of the pie.

An informative book about the good old days of the pulps, but more than that, Gruber makes the whole process just plain fun. I have been a fan of his fiction since junior high school and I still indulge in either a repeat or a new found treasure. When PULP JUNGLE came out as a reprint I scooped it up with no regrets. Unfortunately, not everyone shares my enthusiasm for the stars of yesteryear so I tone mine down among the so called ultra educated. He wrote fast and well. Above all, he is readable and holds his sparkle even years later. You might also try his screenplays. Here he was as versatile as he was with the written word. He died too soon. I'm running out of titles and wish for more.

Wonderfully sleazy taking one back to the good old days when todays R was rated X. Nostalgic in a naughty sort of way recalling boys reading and discussing smut when they should have been reading Silas Marner. Highly recommended to the those who miss the innocence of being excited by Lady Chatterley and The Naked and the Dead. This and works like it formed a basis for a well read future for at least we were reading something. I loved Zane Gray as a boy. I made the mistake of reading him in middle age. Harlem Harlot does not disappoint. It is exactly what it claims to be: Innocence intact in spite of insidious attacks. Note: Yes there is a bit that is considered socially unacceptable today, but we didn't know any better. Don't judge use by the inappropriateness of what we read eons ago.
