Man of Medan, a game that easily could have been a masterpiece, has the performance and creativity as seemingly rushed.
The PROS: Great graphics, Great sound design, The acting capability of the actors and actresses, The Curator (a character)
The CONS: Lackluster jump scares, Poor controls, Buggy animations, Buggy cutscenes, Strange dialog, Lack of effective decisions, Poor storytelling (in the spoilers).
The Details:
There is no doubt that the game has fantastic graphics and sound design, and the actors and actresses have put a lot into this game. However, these few star points fall short with cutscenes randomly skipping, sometimes essential details. The Curator character is the most substantial aspect of the game, and very buggy and unpolished animations ravage this.
The many seemingly materialized out of nothing jump scares with a deafening noise following are just used as fillers. Even though they quickly could not have done that and used the power of suspense to make the few real scares more worthwhile.
The poor controls seriously affect the game's playability by glitching out or just having incoherent timing. The only thing strange with the dialog is when most of the time when the character speaks, you often find yourself saying, "No one says that!"
Sadly, these components don't have much sway on how the game plays out.
SPOILERS: You can figure out the plot of the horror story literally in the first minute or so of the game. Then, in the end, one person says the plot to one other person; of which, they both immediately forget to tell anyone else, and they forget about the plot. Furthermore, throughout the gameplay, you are always finding notes that point back to the opening cutscene; there is one easy-to-come-by document that just straight up tells you everything.
