Bland, boring, and oscar baiting.

This movie is bad enough to be the worst movie of 2018 but it also has more personality then almost every other blockbuster this year. The action scenes actually rule though.

Is it non linear? Kinda, but not really. Is it well acted? Kinda, but not really. Is it interesting? Kinda, but not really. Does the science make sense? Kinda, but not really. Is it well written? I knew this was gonna suck when Ted Bundy went into a dog pound and every dog started barking at him all at once. Which is hilariously cliche in horror movies these days but seeing it happen here really hurt. This movie has some glaring issues. Like the embarassing editing, complete lack of structure, bare bones characters, and poor direction in general. I like Zac Efron enough and some scenes work. Like when Zac Efron promises two different girls word for word the exact same dream for their future. Which was suitably creepy and unnerving without the film over emphasizing it. There really isn't anything like this. The last half of the film is an utter nightmare. The technical skill is incredibly impressive and the performances are tremendous but the first half of the film I found quite frustrating. It's 45 minutes of meandering that do little in terms of storytelling. Feels like an hour of story stretchee to 90 minutes. Disturbing and wonderful as it's last half is, the first half is a bit testing.

Clunky dialogue and some unwritten aspects hold this back a bit but it's a good time regardless. The music is wonderful and the animation is excellent.

The cinematography, score, and performances alone elevate this above most horror movies. It's unfortunate some of it comes off forced and preachy, could've been a masterpiece. youtu.be/EGvMz9l4nbI

Its longer but somehow less happens then in the original. It has more money behind it but its already aged worse. It has more characters but they are somehow all less likeable.
