I really wanted to like this show because I do love these 'mindless' programs. I do like the distraction from my regular intense work... I admit it!
After I completed series 2, I found myself disappointed. Then I was compelled to see what everyone else thinks.
I bought into how Julia 'escaped' and built a new life (kinda want a refund after reading a lot of the news reports). I won't take that away from her because I don't think it's easy - even to 'Marry up'. A lot isn't shared in how this all happened but fair enough...That said, I am disappointed in how she behaves.
I say this because she seems to only embrace her kids when they are aligned to her way of thinking. Hypocritical in my opinion. I don't even believe she is as free as she thinks she is. It comes across very extreme and insecure. Not being religious doesn't mean everyone out there thinks its ok to profusely swear, walk around half naked, be vulgar in speech, encourage kids to be so experimental without moral guidelines, encourage anything and everything 'woke' to seem accepted; it's just beyond me. Season 2 shows that it doesn't bring about freedom at all. I have a number of friends who don't believe in any religion and will not approve in how Julia behaves.
I didn't like that Batsheva divorced her husband over the reasons she cited. This was definitely perpetuated by her sister and mother. She is now single and casually dating - sis trust me, those single friends would give anything to be a marriage like what you had - especially because it seems the reasons were based on clothes and frivolous things.
Miriam is a bright girl. She's fiery and spunky, however it comes across like Julia is bringing her up to be a mini her. Miriam telling Batsheva to leave her husband over jeans and all her 'advice' is just immature. She's inspired by her mum and I think she should sit back and fully consider the advice. It's not all good.
I felt sorry for little Aaron and his desire to be a Rabbi. I get what his mum was saying about balance, however as he said, she won't accept it because he isn't a woke gen z.
That said, season 2 was quite entertaining with all the drama unfolding with the divorce... :-) but I'm still disappointed and wish to tell Julia - have balance. This way that you think is 'the way' doesn't promise the fantasy you hope it will.
