I was always a bit hesitant to watch this movie. I've got to say, I am glad I watched it six years after its release as I am older now to understand the greatness that was unleashed. Besides the amazing music and cast, the movie is made alive because of its redeeming message.
This movie tells the story of an aging mother who after chasing her dreams of stardom at the expense of the love of her family (and her own financial stability), tries to reconcile with them after they have grown. She now takes courage to come back to them not as children but as adults raised by their father and another woman (an honest one I might add). As she is rejected for repeatedly leaving decades ago, she learns to forgive herself all the while her family rejects her (cast her away) as the mother at flight risk she has always been.
The theme is refreshing but it can resonate the message life sometimes wants us to forget: Although our past cannot be undone, you can achieve what seems impossible even if you think it is too late, all you have to do is show up and do right regardless of your latter mistakes!
