This is a review of the 2021 COMEDY drama, not the 2018 sci-fi drama that several confused reviewers are leaving here. "How it Ends" was filled in 2020 during lockdowns, and I love how in a lot of ways this feels like a senior year film class project. Many of Zoe Lister-Jones' previous castmates have cameos along Liza's Odyssean journey, and it feels like she's traipsing through her own neighborhood, asking who wants to help her out and bring their funny. For an apocalyptic comedy, "How it Ends" brings all the feels when you discover why Liza's mini-me (who she has amazing chemistry with) is with her. For a strange, silly, and fun watch, I highly recommend checking out "How it Ends." You'll find yourself craving a giant stack of pancakes, and wondering who you most want to witness the end of the world with.

I hope this movie helps usher in a new wave of romcoms. It’s a ton of fun, entertaining action sequences, and silly in the best way. Movies don’t always have to be masterpieces, they just have to be a good time, with characters you want to spend time with. This achieved that goal and had a great supporting cast to boot. I hope to see more movies like this pop up. Especially if they involve Brad Pitt cameos.

I thought it was a breath of fresh air that the love in this movie was not romantic, especially given the drastic age difference between the characters. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but the phrase “lampshading” is a writer’s way of calling out a major trope, and the name for the baby of lamp seems to be a nod and a wink to that. I think the people looking for the couple to get together missed the point of the movie, about ways that people can create found families in life. The acting and directing was great, I look forward to seeing more from Patti Harrison. I just wish the end hadn’t been quite so abrupt, I understand the choice, but I really didn’t like that.
