This movie stabs hearts and makes us think who really are the winners of war. "Devastation of life and property" are common words until you watch this film. Two children, Seita and Satsuko are forced to struggle as war destroys their home, takes away their parents. Neither society nor relatives have any place for them. Seita's desperate attempts to make life comfortable for his sister Satsuko is heartwarming and heartbreaking.
War has no winners. The loss of everything is not worth it. What is the worth of putting heavy burdens of death of loved ones, struggle for survival, battle with sickness on a young boy of mere 13 years? Why force children to grow quicker than their age?
The tears of young Satsuko and Seita against the tyranny of the inhumanity of humans is something one will take days to get over, if not hours.
A must watch.
