The Netflix’s Witcher is a fantasy epic drama series released in December 2019 with its first season, based on the popular video game series (The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt) which are fan-fiction sequels to the novels written by the Polish author ‘Andrzej Sapkowski’. The show starts really slow and it takes quite some time to pick up the story line but once you comprehend it, especially from the 3rd episode, it suddenly gets exciting as it gets darker and intense. It also illustrates the new trend of different time zones/ timelines in the same series to make it captivating as well as confusing and you certainly get bewildered at first and wonder what is really happening but then you recognize the several phases of past and the present, it then gets easier to put pieces together. The show is full of mystical powers which is so exemplary and incredible to watch; Witches, Elves, mages, supernatural powers, dragons, dwarfs, uncanny cursed creatures and so on. The action, cinematography, graphics, visual effects are laudable and absolutely makes it worth a watch. However, I would mention that the direction of the show isn’t upto the mark. The main character Henry Cavill, who is remembered for the character of superman in DC Comics, plays the role of the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia in this series. Honestly, I found him quite boring and found his work soulless although that might have been the portrayal of his character but his action scenes especially the combats are amazing to watch. However, I liked the other two female main characters; Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan), who both have spectacular witch powers and the presentation of their super natural powers is astonishing. The story revolves around our superman witcher who is a popular mutated monster hunter, earning coins for survival by killing dangerous monsters. Other hand, Yennefer, who is sold to a socceress by her abusive father, is cursed with a hunchback and misshapen jaw which she later reshape herself into a beautiful seductive witch. Season 1& 2 review; I haven't watched a show so remarkable that plays with your emotions and mind so aptly. The characters of the show after the plot are another important factor that makes it so compelling. A genius professor; mastermind of a robbery with the intention of printing billions of Euros at the Royal mint of Spain along with a team of expert thiefs whom he hires to help him execute his perfect plan and win together. It's strange how we get so engrossed in the show that we forget to realise who is good or bad. We of course know that we shouldn't be in anyway supporting the criminals but the show is so brilliantly directed and presented that you end up defending the professor and his gang. They have possibly tried to show that the government, MOI and the police are infact corrupt while the robbers who are supposedly criminals, are the bad guys for them but good guys for us. It's also strange that Berlin who is infact a misogynist, narcissist and a psychopath, I ended up crying over his death! Simply because he always stuck to the plan, never gave up and in the end sacrificed himself for the team who had turned against him. The narrative form of the show to keep a track on the characters, plots lines and thematic meanings was also carried out diligently. Another interesting character is Monica Gaztambide; a shy office secretary and pregnant mistresss of her boss, a hostage who then falls in love with the kidnapper and eventually becomes an accomplice to the group. I loved her! I mean you need to make changes in life like that and know your potential.😉 Over all this show was entertaining! The professor who has a plan drawn for every possible situation and of course his unintentional romance with the national cop who finally catches him. The iconic money heist costume; symbol of resistance, is another highlight of the show. The Salvador Dali masks and the red jumpsuits simply made it outstanding. @whentheyseeus Revisits the true event that occured in 1989, when a jogger was rapped and assaulted in New York's central park and was found clinging to life. As a result of the injuries and trauma, the victim lost her memory of the attack. Five black teen boys named Korey(16), Yosef (15), Antron(15), Raymond(14) and Kevin(14) who said were just 'wilding' in the park at that time were caught around the area. Conclusions were made, they were arrested and forcibly proved guilty. The wrongful convictions took away from them their entire childhood. I wonder how they must have felt in spite of being innocent and not committing to the crime, getting jailed for someone else's misdeed who was still on the loose. The cops allegedly took false information as confessions from the boys by coercion. The eldest of the five, 'Korey Wise', served the longest in prison for almost 14 years and rest of them from 5 to 10 years in juvenile facility. After the convicted murderer and rapist confessed to all his crimes, the light then fell on this case and dots were connected. The five innocent men were then exonerated in 2002. They then sued NY city for racial discrimination, malicious prosecution and emotional distress. In 2014, the state then granted them with 41 million dollars for the damage caused to them and their families. Korey got 12 million dollars in total for suffering the most and longest. However, what leaves us wondering is how unfair the justice system, the truth about racism, the corrupt police and authorities, the media and in general the politics in the state of the country is! Korey, Yosef and Kevin now are public speakers and work as criminal justice reform advocates. 👏 Somewhere, if all happens for a reason and under Gods will, then I believe, they had to go through all of the suffering which is ofcourse unfortunate, But to do and become what they are doing for the society today. We are thankful to Netflix and the writer of the show Ava DuVernay for sharing their story. The show premiered on Netflix in 4 parts in May 2019. My rating 9.8/10 IMDb 9.4/10 Chernobyl is a city in Ukraine which is left abandoned after a nuclear accident that occurred in 1986 due to a flawed reactor design handled by inexperienced operators. Based on a real event, the show #chernobyl, created and written by #craigmazin, is a mini series with just 5 episodes that precisely explains how and what happened at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant station on 26/04/1986 and the series of horrific events that led thereafter eventually shutting down the entire plant and making the place an exclusion zone, illegal to live within 30 km radius of the damaged reactor. The explosion of core at the reactor no.4 due to uncontrollable power rise completely destroyed it, releasing a high radiation level extremely dangerous to the surrounding. And this is said to be one of the worst human made catastrophe in history. The characters played in this show have performed so brilliantly with depth of emotions and seriousness making you feel that they actually have experienced all of it. The intensity of the show and the technicalities leaves you astonished as well as appalled and gripped to the very end. It is overwhelming to watch such shows that are so informative and educates you on such matters with such a powerful story line. However, It is devastating to know that so many lives were lost as a result of it. Numerous people diagnosed with cancer (mainly thyroid)and other diseases due to the after effect. Even the killing of innocent animals who could possibly carry the radiation. Most importantly the people/ heroes who sacrificed their lives, especially those who were hired for the clean up and willingly sacrificed for a safe future and well being of others. It just doesn't end there. The radiation that was released but contained in a metal shell, are still to present highly radioactive and will remain upto 20,000 years! That means the zone around the plant will be an unsafe habitat for that many years. What leaves us with a thought is that, is it really the radiation or the negligence and recklessness of humans far more dangerous? @heaven_without_people is a 91 min Lebanese drama-comedy film, written and directed by #lucienbourjeily . The plot revolves around a catholic Lebanese family who gather together over Easter lunch for the first time in 2 years. Just like most families over gatherings, they discuss a lot of socio-politics and religious issues with a lot of differences in opinion while sipping on good wine and lots of mouthwatering food. One thing to perceive out of their characters and from their conversations is their sectarian nature. The script is witty and the dialogues are spontaneous. It represent the daily life problems faced by a middle class Lebanese family; from power cuts to the increase in utility bills besides family issues such as one of the ladies having a troubled teenage son, one of the couples facing financial problems, other couple having religion barriers in their relationship, other couple trying to migrate from homeland and so on.. However, the good atmosphere and the positive vibe in the house has a paradigm shift when the elderly lady of the house loses money from her purse and knows for a fact that someone that day in the house stole it. The laughter, fun & games then changes to brutal honesty and heated arguments once everyone is aware of it. They begin to blame each other with reasons blurting out their frustrations and grudges held for years. Its gets more bitter with their honest confessions leading to an ugly fight and escalating chaos, building an unpleasant ambience around. The family's Ehtopian maid even gets targeted, being ill treated by one of the members to a point where she is held at a gun point to confess. The movie outlines a lot of factors that comes in picture; hypocrisy, resentment, racism, prejudice, vehemence, deceitful ness, disparagement etc. I loved how the movie was shot, so real, true and absolutely relevant. Each of the characters performed so genuinely and brilliantly. The theme of the movie is authentic and naturalistic. IMDb 8.4/10 My rating 8.5/10 'Unbelievable' is a crime drama series on #Netflix , released in Sep 2019, based on a real life story of Marie, an 18 year old who reports of being raped by a masked intruder in Washington. The investigating officers upon her background check assume that she may be capable of lying and making false statements in order to seek attention, knowing to have a sad and lonely past. Perhaps, her foster parents and friends too think that she made it all up and leave her side. However, 3 years later, two brave detectives in Colarado go through similar rape cases and catch the serial rapist, who is then found guilty of 28 rapes and is sentenced to 327n1/2 years in prison. Upon receiving all the evidence gathered at his house, they find Marie being one of the victims and inform the officers back in Washington who had closed Marie's case on finding no relevant evidence and in fact fining her for making false statements. The officers knowing their mistake of judging her impulsively, inform her and she then with a help of a lawyer, sues the state who make a settlement of $150,000 with her. This show is so gripping that can make you binge watch all episodes at once. All the main characters, Marie and the two female detectives who catch the culprit have performed beyond excellence. Knowing that justice was served in this case gives you a sense of relief but what each of the rape victims had to go through was disturbing, especially Marie who wasn't even believed of being raped. The storyline which is supposedly based on true events but with an addition of drama in it, was truly intriguing till the end. The predicaments to deal with from this show as viewers are; as always the corrupt judicial system, ego centric men, men that take wrong advantage of their power, the culprits who tend to repeat crimes only because of the system failing to to do their job, etc. However, this show emphasizes on women empowerment, which makes it noteworthy. My rating 9.9 IMDb 8.5 (absolutely underrated) Vikings, a historical drama series aired on history channel with its first season in March 2013, created by the amazing writer michaelhirst The latest is its sixth season released in Dec 2019, also available on #netflix To start with, this show is probably one of the best series I have ever watched. It takes us back to the 9th century when the Viking tribe (Northmen) were the settlers in Scandinavia. They worshiped the Norse Gods and were against Christianity. Extremely religious and dangerous. The show begins with Ragnar Lothbrok, a legendary viking hero, who is highly ambitious, seeking for wealth and power, persuading his countrymen to go west to raid as he thinks is the land for their prosperity. After achieving great success in raids, they invade other parts of Europe. They are definitely ruthless but since they were poor, they had no choice. They were also emotional and believers, which makes the viewers side them though they were in fact mass murderers. From just a farmer, #ragnarlothbrok becomes the King of Norway because of his zealous and fierce nature. He is not only clever but a pioneering leader that makes him stand out. He realises that to promote peace and achieve greater things, he needs to think outside religion, accepting different culture for betterment of their future. However, his journey is filled with victories and failures, betrayal and loyalty. The show has a great storyline with so many twists and turns that keeps you at the edge of the seat with each episode. So many heroic battles that leaves you goggle-eyed. Some characters of this show are so inspiring and fearless, that you get so fond of them. In fact, you go head over heels for your favourite! The show also emphasizes on brave women known as shield maidens, who are potrayed as equal warriors as the men, which I truly admired. The mother of the warriors and my favourite was #lagertha It is astonishing to know that these events actually took place in the past and is utterly enlightening to watch the history of the Vikings.
