It must be a generational thing. I hated this film. It protrayed RAPE as something to be fond of. The old woman groomed a young guy who just recently became an adult. He said NO to her and she forced herself on him. Then Mrs Robinson lied to her daughter and said that Ben raped HER! Why does everybody not see that? Is everyone from that generation so completely deluded to not notice this? Why was it romanticed that a married woman cheats on her husband with somebody her daughters age?
Furthermore Ben and Elaine went on one date, in which he took her to a strip club and made her cry, then he stalked her. Ben never explained that he was groomed and raped and Elain was under the impression that Ben raped Mrs Robinson. SO WHY DID SHE WANT TO MARRY HIM?
Lastly the soundtrack song placement was simply excruciating. Two mantages in a row, doubling and even trippling up song plays at inappropriate times for the feeling of the film. I used to like Simon and Garfunkel because I grew up with their records but after watching this film today I can't forget how crappily thrown together every aspect of this film is. Was everybody so baked every day that it made rape cool? Shameful.
