After the violent, joyless, and abysmal Discovery, my faith in the folks making Trek was shaken. I'm pleased to say I loved the first episode of Star Trek: Picard. The care and respect that was shown to the character and the universe of TNG (and the Star Trek canon) was so deeply appreciated. It still felt like he was "our" Captain Picard and that his world was a natural extension of what we saw in TNG. So long as the respect for the franchise and what's come before continues (and so long as they leave biased ideological preaching out of it), I'll keep coming back. It has been a long time since I've felt hopeful about the future of Star Trek. But hope is a tenuous thing. I truly hope they can keep up the excellent work.
