I did not enjoy this book. I found it overblown and gushing. On every second page someone was being hugged. The good characters were unbelievably saccharine sweet, the bad characters standard bogan nasty, the plot crippled by silly and unbelievable coincidences. The writing was pedestrian at best. It entirely lacked an authentic tone making it seem like Silvey was tapping into the woke zeitgeist. I suspect many transgender people may find much of it objectionable.

A disappointing read. Starts well but doesn't really go anywhere. Sets up a mystery to be solved but the end is facile and underwhelming. I also found most of the characters predictable and clichéd.
