There are meta-jokes and satire galore, but it's underdeveloped thematically. Swinton and Sevigny have characters which have promise, but fail to live up to their potential. So, too, with Tom Waits as the seemingly omnipotent hermit.
Most of the gags land though, and it's nice to see a film dealing in apathy, climate change and Trumpian politics. Not classic Jarmusch by any means, but still worth seeing, if you can stomach the gristle (in both senses).
