i hadnt seen the first six films when i went to see this one at the cinema, therefore this review will not be looking at the lack of continuation from the prior movies, but rather how it was an insufferable film on its own. the movie started introducing the characters and spent the first while making them as unlikable as they possibly could. it felt like teenagers in a TV show based in 2021, written by people who were born in the 1970s. all characters were completely disconnected to reality, one was always filming, one was just rude, etc. i was happy to see that the group of main characters featured a gay couple, as i always love to see that shown in media. however, it felt like the writers wrote these characters’ personalities as gay and nothing more. they died early on, too early to get any kind of real connection to them. the movie itself felt like it would never end, there was about four or five possible ending points but it just dragged on and on. by the end, my aunt and i were bored and ready to leave the cinema. both of us love horror movies, and don’t mind when they stretch a bit, but it felt like everywhere we looked there was another twist. i think viewers wouldn’t have minded the plot if it wasn’t connected to such a big name. that’s my thoughts, a lot of people love it so take this as you will.

IT ISNT SUPPOSED TO BE A ROMANCE the point of the book was to show that, even though Violet loved him, even though deep down he knew he'd feel better soon enough, he still died. It was supposed to show that it doesnt matter what people have in life or what they have to look forward to, how they feel in that moment can sometimes completely control them. So many details were changed or left out of the movie, Finch's parents weren't shown once, neither of the main characters looked the way they were described and they really missed the point on the effects suicide can have on the people left behind (for example, in the movie Violet gives a dramatic speech for her presentation about Finch and 'all the bright places' he took her. In the book, however, she was excused from the project all together.) So yeah. I hated this movie. I hope it gets remade in the future by a group of people who love the book and will want it to be exactly like the book, rather than Netflix's money grab excuse of a love story.
