Having been a fan of the comics and the Del Toro movies, I will give you the bottom line. If you can't get over the fact that Ron Pearlman is no longer Hellboy than you're probably not going to judge this movie accurately. First, I will always have love for what Del Toro/Ron Pearlman did with the character, though loosely based on the comics. Second, you have to consider that this movie was done with roughly half the budget of the previous 2. That considered, I think Neil Marshall and the cast did a great job bringing this closer to comics interpretation to the screen. David Harbour does a great job filling in for Ron Pearlman and I'd love to see him reprise this role for future entries. I also love Mila Yovovich as Nimue the blood queen. The only thing that I think was odd was the pace of the movie. It almost seems like you're being shoved into the Hellboy universe with some major events being reduced to a couple minutes. Also would've liked a better take on Rasputin's character, he's an interesting and larger character in the comics, but was reduced to weak lines and an inglorious death. It would've been nice to see the movie end more like the comics but I don't think their budget could accommodate for that as it would likely account for a large portion of the budget, so you're forgiven. Bottom line is that if you're a fan of the Hellboy universe and not just Del Toro's/Pearlman's version, then you'll enjoy this one.
