Even though I hate the holidays, this is a movie I'd lightly recommend.
Yes, it's a rip-off, in many ways, from A Christmas Story. And historically, it's inaccurate -- the year of the Cabbage Patch doll craze was the Christmas of 1983. The NES wasn't even out by that time. The two video game systems fighting for supremacy was the Coleco ColecoVision and Atari's 5200. Many kids were hoping for a home computer too and Coleco had been late on releasing its all-promising Adam computer.
That aside, the acting was just okay. The storyline was only so-so. And, as many other reviews have already stated, I almost turned if off halfway through.
So why would I mildly recommend it then? Really it's because of the ending. It saved the entire movie.
Yeah, I hate the holidays. Many of my family members are gone which makes it a horrible time of year.
