I ran into this movie last night while surfing cable channels. It made me see the lure, hardships and lifestyle the African American youth subscribe to in search of a better life. I’m talking Big City dwelling in poverty realities. There is no parental guidance mother than crime. Latinos have similar issues within our community, cartels being the pimps while children are being by grandparents or addicts. I ran into this movie last night while surfing cable channels. There’s a lot of criticism if the movie but the only criticism is hold us the ability to make me cry my heart out. For those of us who suffer from dysfunctional families and mental health/addiction (many cases go hand in hand. There are two major scenes that made me crumble:
1. The final encounter between mother and child. How many parents and children need family counseling and parenting skills? How many love starved children (young and old alike) and devoid parents out there?
2. The final scene. Love and acceptance, filial loyalty, martyrdom, the travel of rime and space in faint memories leading to Redemption at Heaven’s Gates, for Love conquers all, even Death itself.
