Typical of JP Dutta, far removed from facts and technically awful, tear-jerker, that would demoralise the viewers. Songs and romantic scenes were absolutely unnecessary. Long line of stretchers carrying martyrs were not inspiring. In this skirmish 80 Indian officers and men were martyred while 400+ Chinese were killed.
This skirmish was chiefly won by Indian Artillery whose 5.5-inch guns at Men La fired so much that their barrels turned red with heat. They literally devastated the Chinese bunkers, tunnels and installations so badly that the Chinese were forced to seek truce.
Unlike the movie, there was no delay in Indian Artillery support (unlike IAF in Border) opposite to what shown here.
Big dialogues, breast-beatings and valiant words do not happen in actual war.
Overall, PALTAN is nothing special but a repeat of Border and LOC (both also had similar errors and illogical dramas).
Technically this movie fails most of the time. For example:- AN INFANTRY OFFICER NEVER GETS OPPORTUNITY TO PULL AN ARTILLERY GUN! As if there were no artillery officers around!
This movie may inspire common civilians who have ZERO knowledge of Army (like most Indians), but to actual soldiers, JP Dutta's PALTAN was a big disappointment.
I wish Mr Dutta could have consulted any Army officer while he made this movie.
To me, it was no better than Border or LOC.
