I read this book in 1972 when I was 18 and I was transfixed by it. I loved the "groovy" idea of "turn on, tune in, drop out". Now in 2020 I think we can all agree that mind-altering, psychedelic drugs are eminently dangerous. Leary does, however, make an important point about letting white men way past their prime rule. He makes the distinction between someone vital and virile, like JFK, and compares him with the septuagenarians who usually govern us.
