Meta? More like extra. Imagine reading a trollfic for two and a half hours. That’s what watching this movie feels like. It does have some interesting social commentary, but it’s nothing groundbreaking and it fails to make up for the film’s myriad shortcomings. Everyone is out of character. The plot is little more than a shameless Inception ripoff that repeatedly insults your intelligence in a hollow and pretentious attempt to appear genuinely thought-provoking. Every possible good thing you could say about this film is something already done to much greater effect in the 1999 original. Hell, even the special effects were somehow better 20 years ago.
