Such an incredible film and tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
Where to begin. The theme of grief is so heavy in the story and looms over all the characters allowing a more serious tone in the film with good, balanced humour. The villain, Namor, was a genuine threat and whilst shared similarities to Killmonger also served as a good parallel to Shuri. They follow up the last film well with lots of callbacks and the cast is incredible-Angela Basset in particular serving insane acting. The costuming is gorgeous and compared to some other films in this phase it is such a breath of fresh air.
The CGI is suffering unfortunately towards the second half of the film, the climax in particular which is an issue since it’s so obvious and the climax is so emotional. You can see Marvel trying to make do with what money they have left in the budget but don’t let it deter you.
Riri Williams is very cute and fun, she doesn’t appear much in the second half but I do love good female friendships and connections and was someone Shuri needed. I am concerned for how they handle her in the future due to Marvel’s recent rut and hope they give it some time before introducing her fully as she doesn’t need an unnecessary hate.
[Spoilers]
I love the detail of Shuri not choosing the purple BP suit but the gold one instead as she chooses the path of vengeance as Killmonger did. The way vengeance is handled is well done as well, you don’t want her to kill Namor and can tell she will regret it forever.
Many people complain it’s ‘woke’ since it’s a mostly female cast, they’re just looking for something to complain about because it’s something you won’t even register.
Whilst I like Martin Freeman’s character, he had too many scenes.
The ending felt abrupt.
People complain about Wakanda not handing over their Vibranium even though it is literally proven why in the beginning of the film
