This is an incredibly good film. The first time I turned it on I had no idea what was going on. The subtitles added to the problem. However, I perservered. I have now watch it three times and believe it to be a truly excellent film very well done. The gay undertones of the lead (Edouard) and probably second lead Olivier are but one theme of a number that intertwine and mix to the primary theme. This is it's initial complexity. It is also it's beauty. The film I think deals with a complex scenario of the love of an older person (say 30???) for a younger (say 15???) and I believe the love of the younger for older man. This unravels beautifully and delicately as the film evolves all the while other themes are intermixing. I don't think I've seen a film deal with a variety of issues so well all with the backdrop of the beauty of the mid 1920's Paris.
