Just follow the original story that was already in place... You had one job, it was such a simple task... They just made up their own rules too with how all the heros got their "powers". No! That was never how it worked in the original Mortal Kombat, Jax, Kano and Sonya Blade never had powers, just awesome military gear and gadgets. You took the mortal combat name, took a dump on it and turned it into you own terrible product. BTW, who is Cole?!?! The main character has ALWAYS been Liu Kang, not some random guy named "Cole". If you wanted to take a different approach you could of atleast focused on Scorpion or even Johnny Cage not just make up a whole new character!
