Thumbs up for all the actors and actresses. They did a phenomenal job, especially Harriet. I thought I was going to see a full bodied black woman in all complexities of her life that portrayed her as a mother, wife, daughter excetera. But what I got was a good movie portraying a superhero character! I guess my purpose for watching the movie did not match the producers purpose for making the movie. I left having more questions about her, so if the intent was to spark our curiosity about Harriet Tubman, then they nailed it! However if the intent was to show us who she was in all facets of what made her Harriet Tubman and the complexity of her life, they failed miserably! Bottom line-it is a feel good movie that reminds you a various elements of The Human Experience during a Time where American black Americans were dehumanized! But I've seen it before! The movie Typecast black American women in a way that are mystical beings and stronger than our black male counterparts. Mystical beings are not replicated. People don't see mystical beings as something that can truly happened today in order to change the trajectory of the black experience in America. Additionally, the movie portrayed a black woman who didn't need a man! An independent woman stronger than her male counterpart- where does that leave the black man in America?
