If you think it is a story of Hindu and Muslim you are mistaken, or of Police and crime you are mistaken, or of media and politics you are mistaken anyway. The protagonist is Hathiraam Chaudhury or it can be anybody else. Tyagi to Ansari, Mehra to Chinni the character portrayal is very well thought. The whole script is conceptualized into something we are likely to withdraw us from and we are tempted to follow where the cast and crew led us to.. I read a brief review before watching the series that the first two episodes are ok. You will be glued to it from the third episode. Sorry to say, from the very first scene I am transported to another realm and even after watching the last episode I am still in a kind of trance. People calling it ' overrated' surely missed the essence..I am a great fan of Swastika ( as Dolly Mehra ). In ' Patallok ' she did an outstanding job..from the subtle touch of sadness in the eyes of Hathiraam to Chhanda' s survival strategy will make us relate to our life. You will not get a clue of what is happening. The dots are connected to a magical plot where no one is the protagonist. There is no typecast. The policeman is not a corrupt one, nor a protector. The media makes imaginary stories to make them saleable to the point of making lies a routine work they loath to do...in the end Sanjiv Mehra , the media person seems carried away on camera and then resumes his story building that his audience like to hear. We all like to hear things that make us socially and politically comfortable with our already known ideas such as terrorist attacks or communal riots. Like Mr Mehra we fail to realise that we are only pawns. Like Hathiraam we wisely observes that nothing can be done. System is the indestructible entity that shapes us, takes shape of us. It works through creating misconceptions, lies and infinite relativity.. In the pursuit of dream, money, ambition, position we all are placed in a system that we often deny to have an existence.
No matter how far you will go an eternal networking like the one ' ' Donalia ' has in a remote village will drag you into the jungle of threat and fear. Some reviewer told it a work by the Hinduphobics. It is a work by brains who did a lot of research work. The cast left me amazed. The story left me awake till midnight. The dialogues, references to Mahabharata and Dashavatara gave wow moments.
This has created history in the world of performing arts and the artists will be remembered for ages.
