The film is authentic, and clever; maybe too clever. Emma looks like a neo classical statue and matches the emotion of the book. I love the shanty incidental music between the scenes. It’s surprising and charming.
The film overall is very good. No one puts a foot wrong. The film is an adaptation of an historical novel and aims to be refreshingly true to its purpose. Hence the shanty songs. Some of the rural cinematography is brilliant. It’s obviously meant to look like the paintings of Gainsborough or Joshua Reynolds. The film is worth seeing just for that. I was very pleased with the film.
