Very interesting film meant to evoke deeper thought. Definitely the kind of film that needs your full attention. Portrays the nuisance of class and the struggle within capitalism. The worker enslaved by their need for purpose in themselves yet within society's restrictions driven mad by the inevitable commodification of the things they love. The curtness of the film helped to drive home the abruptness of our own reality. In the end, no one wins with capitalism, a part of you is always lost in the struggle to survive and/or succeed. Bleak and quirky film, would not recommend it to a friend as it is a depressing watch and capitalism is inescapable as it is. To others who still haven't learned or experienced much pertaining to class + capitalism or just lack the self-awareness to recognize their privilege then this is for you.

A beautifully well-made movie highlighting many different themes such as misogyny, religion, and the patriarchy and how that relates to womanhood, self-identity, tradition and race. I love that while it does touch upon these themes it remains centered around the female gaze and its push and pull against a traditional audience.

This show is breathtaking in animation and the fight sequences are fantastic. The representation of POC and LGBTQ+ characters is amazing by far. I hope they continue strong for the next season!

I haven't finished the book entirely, about 3/4 of the way there but I don't see why this book doesn't have better ratings? I'd expect a 4-4.5 rating from a book like this, it's up there with the City of Brass, Reaper at the Gates, and a majority of recently released books in a similar genre. I hope more people find this book! I'm a big fan of books with cultural lore and I have not yet stumbled across one depicting Mexican folklore, I think this is a great introduction to it. Do not hesitate to pick this book up! I had to choose a Canadian author for my independent study unit for school and I refused to read the horribly dry and depressing books written by other Canadian authors out there, although they might be good this genre and writing style was definitely more up my alley and I am pleased to have been able to analyze this book! Looking forward to more works by Silvia <3
