I understand that this is historical fiction; but even so the physical railroad irks me. I could have probably gotten past that if the plot moved at a slightly quicker pace. Or if the lighting and audio were more even and consistent. For large stretches of this series I found myself struggling to see or hear what is going on and trying to understand if we are witnessing a dream or real events that happened to our characters. Overall I enjoyed parts of this series but mostly found it frustrating.
