Why isn’t anyone appalled at how this man (The Joker) is treated? Is it ok to beat people mercilessly for no apparent reason other than you don’t like him or, in this case, he laughs too much? Is it ok for a badly delusional woman on drugs to even raise a child? Is it ok for a child to suffer? Or is it ok for a man or woman to be ridiculed by someone in a position of safe power? On TV? It’s all too easy to roll out the ‘mental illness’ card. America is missing the more important message entirely - that humans are cruel and the most vicious animal on the planet. And that we break each other constantly. Husbands break wives. Wives break husbands. Parents break kids everywhere. None of this gets talked about. THIS is the real message of this movie. That pushed far enough a human will break. Some will withdraw from life and be lucky enough to be taken care of by others. Others will be so broken they will start hitting back. This movie strongly highlights that humans have lost all sense of responsibility for their actions. Yes of course three men being shot for beating one man seems extreme but why are we not questioning why it was ok for them to firstly humiliate an innocent woman and secondly beat a man sitting at the other end of the train? Wake up America. Isn’t it time to learn respectful action towards fellow humans and to realize there is always some degree of consequence to extreme bullying? It’s rampant here - politicians on both sides of the aisle, kids at school, parents, partners. I am disgusted by the critics who right this movie off to “mental illness leading to violent behavior”. You have totally missed the message - a very important one if we are to survive as a society. This is the movie that had to be made. Now it’s simply a question of will America learn from it or will we sweep it under the carpet under the guise of mental illness because we find that palatable?
