As an avid reader, this was one of the only times in my life that I found myself reluctant to pick up a book I was reading. The Scarlet Letter was genuinely one of the least engaging books I've read, and frankly I don't see its appeal. Unless you are very engrossed in interpreting symbolism, you will find little to comment on in this book. The language used is confusing, and it is hard to understand the plot development of the novel. In addition, the total lack of action in this book (you will find actual dialogue hard to find through the chapters) makes it extremely hard to stay focused while reading. I frequently found myself skimming pages for actual substance, and more than often came up empty handed. Overall, highly recommend choosing a different book to read, don't waste your time on this supposed "classic".
