Not a great film but a good one, all the more so for being unusual. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan both give brilliant performances. The plot is silly yet compelling and perfectly relatable to anyone who's ever struggled against the existential angst of life. I also appreciated that I genuinely didn't know what was going to happen next, which is rare with a rom-com. But this isn't exactly a rom-com. It's hard to classify — a bit bizarre, sometimes thought-provoking and entirely wholesome, it's essentially a pleasant way to pass two hours.
