What an incredible movie - one of the best I have seen in this decade.
Performance by Tapse is outstanding, she says so much without saying much. I felt the full impact of what a slap did to her and how she felt. It wasn't just a slap but a wake up call to the conditioning she had been through to accept what's okay. The situations and misogyny shown wasn't forced, but very natural because that's what society has created - men, women, mothers, fathers, siblings and all play a huge part.
The supporting cast was just right, I was interested in finding out how they change their relationships by the end of the movie - esp the lawyer that is doing amazing work and happier when free but undervalued and captured by her husband whilst being used as a piece of property whenever he wishes to. It was also great to see a single mom raise a daughter and happy being single because being tied to society's pressures of having a spouse is not for everyone! The maid's story was rather painful; really showed how people that can't make the right choice for themselves due to being underprivileged.
It was good to see how a whole society's perspective is captured on such an important issue - from the parents, neighbors, work colleagues, lawyers and well wishers.
Let's hope movies like this actually bring about a change in society. So that next time when a man hits a woman; he takes ownership of his mistake and recognizes it's his mindset that needs fixing before any relationship can be successful.
