Billy Lane

This is one of my all time favorite TV shows (for reference I loved Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Shadowhunters, Angel and some of the DC/Marvel shows). This show has adventure, drama, comedy, horror, love stories and an epic scope about it. It hits all the right notes! Obviously, and thankfully the entire series revolves around Arthur and Merlin and their friendship. This show does better than any other Arthurian movie to show the relationship that exist between king and wizard (or warlock like the show calls Merlin). This may contain the greatest Bromance of any other tv show. And Bradley and Colin play their parts perfectly. When Arthur is willing to sacrifice himself and go on a quest to save Merlin we get to see the true qualities that makes Arthur the king we know he can be. While I watched the series for the fantasy, magic and adventure, I also love the comedy that this show contains. The actors all do a magnificent job with their facial expressions and reactions to allow us to get in on the inside jokes that exist. Gaius does a marvelous job as a mentor to Merlin and I love the development of the father and son roles that they fill. The series also does a great job of allowing us to see how Morgana becomes the villain. You may even find yourself caring for her and wanting things to work out better. While there are very strong feelings about the final episode, I loved what the writers did. Though I hated that Arthur died (the series was cut short to me and they should have had a season where Arthur knows Merlin’s secret and they work together) but I loved how Bradley and Colin acted the last scenes together. There was a heaviness that was portrayed and this great sense of time being cut short punctuated by the great loss of a best friend. I cried more in this finale than any other I’ve ever watched. This series deserves more recognition than it gets. I consider it to be one of the greatest of all time. And the cast, crew and writers should have gotten far more awards and accolades, because they earned them. Do yourself a favor and watch this series now!

The worst Arthur movie ever made. The story jumps around and at times you think you’ve missed something. Arthur gets tied up by a woman somehow. But then she cuts him loose just to fight him. So, Mordred is Arthur’s son and yet he wants to marry Guinevere, Arthur’s wife??? The knights just squabble and fight and act like children. Mordred expects Arthur to come back and yet he leaves the gate open with two guards who aren’t even on watch??? You can’t even tell what Merlin is but one thing is sure, he’s no help to Arthur. The sword fighting is abysmal! They even make ‘swishing’ sounds at times for effects. I half expected Batman’s ‘pow’ and ‘crash’ effects to appear. The one thing Arthur does well is ….. screams. He just yells five or six times for no apparent reason. The only thing decent in this movie is the music. But, it can do nothing to redeem the bad writing, terrible acting and awful storyline problems. With a rich and varied mythos and folklore to draw from how can any Arthur and Merlin movie be this bad?
