I really wanted to like this film but was so irritated within the first 15 minutes. I continued to watch it and found it more and more annoying as it went along. I really like Jesse Plemoms and Kirsten Dunst and love Benedict Cumberbatch but felt their performances were good but they all seemed so separate from each other, like they were all trying to outdo each other for a nomination for best actor or supporting actor. That may seem harsh but I honestly felt no chemistry or connection with any of them. The mother and son, nothing. The 2 brothers...didn't believe they were brothers at all. The husband and wife...they are married in real life and to me there was zero chemistry there.
Slow burn is one thing but extra long scenes that aren't really that necessary and scenes where it makes no sense as to why you edited that way? Horses with flys crawling on them? Again, it annoyed me.
I think Jane is an incredible Director but felt this story was not really compelling and I wasn't shocked at the ending at all...I saw that coming a mile away. Sorry...like I said, I really wanted to like this film. Benedict Cumberbach did an impressive job with his American accent so props for that.
