My expectations were high before seeing this documentary, but the film exceeded them in every way.
Kucera's extraordinary shots of life as it and we teeter on the edge of human-caused environmental disaster and extinction were breathtaking. The beauty of the life depicted is juxtaposed by the hard truths of climate change and the difficult struggle ahead without hedging or soft-coating their brutal immediacy. Human accountability and responsibility are clearly articulated, as is the challenge to all of us inherent in the narrative of Bridges and of the many other voices we hear.
This is mature movie, a movie for adults. It is intelligent, accessible, inclusive, and not overly focused on the science of climate change that is conclusive and irrefutable; rather, the emphasis is on the equally irrefutable biopsychosocial science that ties us to the systems of life and to all of its forms. With great clarity and courage, the movie challenges us to focus our attention on the instincts and behaviors that brought us here and that will make this struggle so difficult, but that, paradoxically, will make it possible to surmount. We can - if we accept the challenge and work together - win this battle..
Don't look away. Look around. Look inside. Accept the challenge.
