Candyman review
Spoilers
Candyman (2021) a direct sequel to the first film of the same name released back in 1992 (Candyman) disregarding the two follow up sequels, Candyman farewell to the flesh (1995) and Candyman Day of the dead (1999), this film takes place twenty-seven years later, and follows artist Anthony Mccoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll), the movie is a beautify shot film by director Nia Dacosta it is a film that dives into racial diversity, in lower class Chicago. It’s ties to the fist film and also continuation of the legend of Candyman played by the masterful Tony Todd are interesting and amazing to watch. Through out the film you can see Candyman in reflections of well-placed shots some more obvious the others. You follow Anthonys slow collapse into insanity and transform into The Candyman you see his untangle the mystery of Candyman and his origins.
I enjoyed watching the film but I felt it tried to retell the story from the first film in flashbacks and other dialogue and before you know it you are at the end of the film watching Candyman hack and slash his way through police. The film just felt a bit too much complicated for a supernatural slasher now I love a good supernatural slasher, and I’m not saying the film is bad, but I think they could of spent more time building up the other characters instead of trying to tell the story of the first films like Helen Lyle, there are scenes that if you remove the film would still be the same film I feel they did that to add to the body count in a really cool school bathroom massacre but I still really enjoyed it.
This is my own opinion to the film and I am just telling my thought on the film and am nothing trying to sway people’s opinions on the film, everyone is aloud to like or dislike what they want, so please watch the film and come up with your own thoughts, id love to hear and talk about some opinions on the film
