I started off with this new series on Amazon Prime, being Kalki's fan. I've always admired her choice of art, her choice of diverse characters, and not just being another star being epicentre of every story.
As the name suggests, the series starts with the concept of Marriages, considered a truly holy ceremony in India. What it unravels as we move through the series is clenching. It takes a jibe at the Indian society, portraying how marraiges are nothing but business agreements, how NRIs conduct competition to get the best out of the crowd, how people make deals and shut others, while showing to the world how much in love they are.
Unlike other traditional Indian ones, this series has no limits on love. It shows how people from all backgrounds, class, workplace and orientation tend to fall for each other. But it also shows how the society takes a bite to it, bringing every detail to light that could possibly ruin lives.
To all Kalki fans, do watch this series. Her podcast My Indian Life on BBC is another masterpiece.
