There is a lot to be excited for in this series. There are some "inside baseball" references that hardcore fans like myself can get excited for, but casual fans might miss - but they won't take away from the story because they are built into the mystery of the plot. They do a really good job of explaining what’s happening in the greater universe without over explaining. They also do a great job of establishing characters and relationships. The thing that surprised me was how they were able to make The Mandalorian culture as mythic as the Jedi were in the original trilogy. Usually they are depicted as prideful warriors (kinda basic) but there are moments in the story that feel like the first time Obi-Wan talks to Luke about the force. Dave Filoni directs the first episode, and if you aren’t familiar, he spent 10 years training under George Lucas and was the show runner on the clone wars animated series and Star Wars rebels (all on Disney+). This is his first time directing live action, but unlike most animation directors he was taught to direct animation like it is live action, and it really shows. As a story teller he is very detailed, and will make references in his stories that he will tie back in later into the story. Everything that makes it to the final cut has purpose and there is payoff later in the series. I love directors like that because filler is a waste of time.
