I will be completely honest in this review. I watched this movie and i found it really interesting. People do have complaints and so do I. Firstly the actual design of the Kaiju Godzilla itself. Though it is awesome looking at first, I watched it again and realized that it is not that much different from the original designs. Not that that is the complaint it is the fact that they changed it up. The jaw splitting in half, the fact that Godzilla's thighs are thicker than any entry in the entire series of movies and shows. Not that different is bad not at all, but it does drift away from what Godzilla is. It still is a good design though. Secondly the plot. Yes the plot is simple like most of the entries of the Godzilla series. People repeatedly compare it to Gareth Edwards 2014 Godzilla and frankly I see why. It is the second newest movie (until Godzilla: King Of The Monsters comes out in 2019 when it will become the third) In 2014's Godzilla we can connect to the characters. I remember the characters in the movie, though I didn't see the movie recently I can roughly remember them. The story is that "Ford Brody has to see his father in Japan (played by Bryan Cranston) when Godzilla attacks with two other Kaijus who procreate and Ford has to save his family and survive the constant attack of monsters." The story in Shin Godzilla is "a monster is found and is awoken to attack Japan and Japan has to find a way to stop it." That's it. I don't remember any characters and the story was really like the original movie in 1954. Thirdly why does Godzilla now have the ability to shoot plasma out of his back and mouth? I can get the flammable smoke, but it isn't really necessary. I have nothing against Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Fourthly the effects. The CGI is honestly not at all the best. And that is sad considering the 15 million budget had to go somewhere and it definitely didn't go to the CGI. But these are just pet peeves of mine. Now what is going for it, firstly the acting. Though the characters were hard to remember most did have good moments and did act really well. Second is Godzilla. I love this design, the small details like how there is a protective eye layer to shield its eyes from explosions and the way it is Godzilla. Though it is not my favorite it definitely is up there. Thirdly the night time scenes. The scenes at night are beautiful. And the effects are so much better at night since it is mostly dark. And that is my review of this movie, it is my opinion what you thought of this movie I'm okay with that. I give this movie a 6.8/10
