Very excellent movie with great cinematography. Even the language was choppy to create an effect of train jerking. It could have been film noir but more noir romance with a good ending. One really lears about culture of china during the period.

Phoenix is great. Like a young DeNiro. Plot holds together but Gwyneth is not believable as messed up young woman who looks to Phoenix for love- life advice. Well acted and good story.
